Reflection:
Throughout unit three, training was the common theme. More importantly, this unit increased my training program skills. A solid training program is necessary to develop and retain desirable, competent help. A valuable HR leader can spot areas where training may need to be improved on.
In this unit, I spent time strengthening my skills at writing SMART training objectives. Good objectives create an easy path to forming the outline of a training program. I found that good objectives lead to better a better training session, higher job-satisfaction, and better employee retention. I got hands-on experience listening to administrative and orientation team complaints. After working through all the feedback, I was able to create a targeted orientation program for new hires. This experience also afforded me an opportunity to use my lead process improvement skills to create a “train the trainer” program to streamline the on-boarding processes for the orientation team.. Together, these programs will provide a better experience for everyone involved in the orientation process.
Finally, I was given the opportunity to share my pervious presentation and public speaking skills to create a short training video. The challenge for me was to keep the video to five minutes or less. It was an enjoyable challenge to select the right session of my training outline that would fit within the small window of sharing time. I was pleased with my presentation, the flow, and content.
